Focus on Energy and Sustainability

Energy efficiency and environmental sustainability are key focus areas for Temp Right Service, Inc., a Comfort Systems USA company. Temp Right Service is leading the way in the transition to healthy, sustainable, and more energy efficient buildings. Temp Right Service is an ENERGY STAR® Partner, a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), and has a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Professional Accredited Professional (LEED® AP). We also perform energy audits, performance contracting, Aircuity® Monitoring, and utilize Energy Smart Decision Tools™.

U.S. Green Building Council and LEED®

"Diligent, timely, and thorough...
they are great to work with"

One of Temp Right's major strengths is their management. They’re eager to get into a project and solve problems. We recently completed an experimental (LEED® Platinum) project with Temp Right's help; it was a new level of achievement for all of us.

Kevin Gordon, President
Gordon Construction, Missoula, MT

In 2008, Temp Right Service completed the heating and plumbing systems in the Missoula Federal Credit Union (MFCU). MFCU received the first Missoula County LEED® Platinum Certification, which is the highest possible LEED® rating. Also in 2008, Temp Right Service completed the Jackson Contractor Group Office Building, which is also seeking LEED® certification. Temp Right is proud to lead the way in LEED® certification in Montana.

U.S. Green Building CouncilThe U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is a non-profit organization that certifies sustainable businesses, homes, hospitals, schools, and neighborhoods. USGBC is dedicated to expanding green building practices and education, and its LEED® Green Building Rating System™.

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Green Building Rating System is a voluntary, consensus-based national rating system for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. LEED addresses all building types and emphasizes state-of-the-art strategies in five areas: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials and resources selection, and indoor environmental quality.

LEED Accredited ProfessionalsLEED® Accredited Professionals (LEED APs) have demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles, the LEED® Green Building Rating System, and the successful stewardship of the certification process. The LEED® AP program is administered by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) which was established with the support of USGBC to allow for objective, balanced management of the credentialing program.

Energy Star

ENERGY STARTemp Right recommends ENERGY STAR® certified equipment whenever possible. During the 2008 calendar year, Temp Right Service installed more than 860 ENERGY STAR® certified boilers, furnaces, and split systems. The installations will result in:

• Elimination of almost 1,023,579 lbs of annual greenhouse gas emission (CO2)
• Annual electricity savings of nearly 265,622 kWh
• Annual fossil fuel savings of nearly 30,458 therms

The many benefits include:

• Significant energy savings over non-ENERGY STAR® equipment
• Lower operating costs
• Lower emissions
• Environmental stewardship
• Reduced dependency on imported fuels

Energy Audit

To lower operating costs through reducing energy consumption, our process starts with an Energy Audit.

During the Audit, our experienced energy engineers investigate, identify and quantify building systems improvements that provide energy and/or operational savings to help off-set the cost of their implementation.

We deliver a professional report recommending a fixed-price program that delivers the best balance between installed costs and savings. The report will provide you with a strategic action plan for cost effective strategies to lower your energy costs.

During our audit we concentrate on evaluating the facility operations with focus on the major energy consuming building systems including:

• HVAC
• Lighting and lighting controls
• Motors and Pumping Systems
• Building Controls
• Heat Gain/Heat Loss through building envelope
• Water and Sewer use

Our evaluation will include a review of the existing systems and equipment, identification of the existing and proposed loads on each system, identification of potential improvements, evaluation of the installation cost associated with each potential improvement, and an evaluation of the annual operating costs for all of the improvements.

Included in our process are consultations with our clients’ operations team to review our assumptions and details of our recommendations for operational feasibility. On completion of our evaluation we submit a report/proposal to implement the recommended program that meets our clients’ financial and operational criteria. This proposal includes a firm, fixed price for implementing the recommended program, the estimated annual energy and operational savings, conceptual design documents, as well as pro-forma life cycle cost analysis and review of our observations regarding implementing sustainable operations consistent with the Energy Star® and Green Building programs.

Energy Smart Decision Tools™

Energy Smart logoENERGY SMART DECISION TOOLS™ provides an economic analysis of proposed projects using our life cycle cost analysis of feasible alternatives. We provide the information in a clear, concise reporting style in the language that our clients use to make their important business decisions.

The information that we provide is based on the actual data that we gather from our client's business. We produce accurate computer simulations of existing facilities, or new, proposed project designs, focusing on installed costs and operating costs. We then determine the impact that alternative designs would have on the business by comparing the alternative cash flows. Our resulting life-cycle cost analysis then reflects the impact that each alternative would have on the business. The next step is to synthesize that information into useful decision tools for our client’s management team.

When our clients are considering a new building project, or retrofit replacements of existing building systems, they are making a cash decision that the business will live with for 10, 20 or even 30 years. Our ENERGY SMART DECISION TOOLS™ provide the information to compare feasible alternatives so you can make the best decisions for your business.

The Aircuity® Monitor system is employed for the automated analysis of key environmental parameters in the assessment of HVAC system performance. The automated process captures key data points about the air quality from a facility, performs an in-depth and expert analysis of the information, and provides result based outcomes regarding performance and identifies potential areas to be optimized within the facility.

Geothermal heat-pump systems are the fastest growing segment in the energy efficiency field. The technology, which uses the earth's underground heat to produce heating and cooling for buildings, has been around since the early 1980s, but it was too costly for most businesses until energy prices soared in recent years. Now, the monthly savings from geothermal units pay for the installation costs in a relatively short period, while reducing energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions.
